TAKING COVER

I never imagined that a hat could ad so much pizazz to an outfit. The races at the J & B Met, was the perfect platform to sport the different styles of head cover. From elegant sloping hats with large brims, some as big as satellite dishes, to subtle fascinators gently dangling from the side of the head, to cheeky little feathers assembled in a bouquet, there was a hat for all. Some took cover behind head pieces that would have covered the wing span of an eagle, others donned  cylindric shapes reminiscent of the Zulu culture, beautifully adorned with embroidery and other paraphernalia. You be the judge, here are some of what I observed.

  1. I like the yellow one the most! However, all of them are truly eye catching.

    Have a lovely day, Nicolene!

  2. Charming! Such another world from our dismal rural culture. Similar hat displays happens at a couple of our horse-racing events here in the US, but beyond ball caps, cowboy hats ( I have a half-dozen I used to actually use!) and the ocassional knit cap in winter ... we go hatless. I take that back ... there's a grand tradition of Southern women wearing glorious chapeaux to church, but I've never seen much of it in this northern-most part of the south.
    Thank you for the treat!

    1. Thanks Jan for stopping by, nice to hear from you again! I've been so slack blogging and commenting lately due to overload of work. However, I hope to get back into the swing of things again soon and to be able to blog! I remember having to wear a hat as a child going to church, but nowadays it's only worn to weddings. Come winter, we don headgear in the Western Cape due to fierce wind and rain!
