Fur-rocious

I will always have mixed feelings about the concept of fur. Although my conscience dictates otherwise, I can associate with the idea of indulging in the luxury of fur if it is not harvested in a inhumane manner. Fur farms are notorious for using methods that do not resonate with animal protection activists. However, if it is produced in controlled circumstances, it should not be construed as cruel. My fur jacket is vintage and attracts many stares, both from critics and admirers. Travelling Eeastern Europe and trotting the baltic region, one must however resort to extreme measures to take shelter against the cold, and can I justify this work of art. I am not quite ready to abandon meat or leather shoes, and will continue to keep this lovely coat stacked away for sub zero temperatures as I am an Ice bear at heart....extreme weather calls for extreme measures.

  1. As much as I love the feel and luxury of fur, I just no longer feel right wearing it, even vintage pieces. I know in some climates it's really the warmest option.

  6. I love fur coats and are the only true remedy against extreme cold. Women in central Spain know of what I speak. This country not only has sun in summer, inside freezes in winter and no wool or pen to remove the cold. Regards

  7. I absolutely love your coat! I'm so glad you wrote this post. I feel exactly how you do. I'm totally on the fence when it comes to fur. Yes I own a couple of pieces. In Vancouver I never wore it, now living in Poland it's different....

  8. How chic you look ... very expensive, and understated, and completely elegant! I agree. Lovely vintage pieces should be conserved and worn ... no one is served if the piece goes to waste and ruin. Leathers are never a problem for me if it comes from anything that is routinely farmed for meat. The more use we can make of what we raise for food the better, I believe.
I wouldn't be able to purchase new, farmed luxury furs, including fox and wolf and creatures hunted for their fur alone .... but it's wrong to waste what comes to us from a different time and place. Faux should be the new standard to protect those creatures, and perhaps we'll get there someday.
Very cold climates come much nearer justifying the use of real fur, I agree. But it is never without conflict for me, as well.
All that aside ... you just drip glamour wearing it. Of course people stare ... you're gorgeous!

    1. Dear Jan thank you so much, I so agree. I don't think I would ever buy new fur or promote the concept of farmed fur at all, it' s much like trophy hunting which serves no purpose other than boosting the hyper inflated egos of hunters that want to mark a so called acheivement! Have a merry Christmas, may it be a blessed time. I look forward to reading more of your spectaculorly narrated posts!!

  11. Gorgeous coat! I inherited a beautiful shearling long coat from my mother in law. She has a few from the late 60s/70s. But the coat is way too big for me and as a result it just sits there in the closet. I hope one day I'll find a proper place to send it for alteration. Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year, gorgeous.. stay stylish!

  12. Pure elegance, Nicolene! I wear fake fur now but I do have a nice coat with incredibly soft rabbit fur and I love wearing that.
Best wishes for the New Year!
