IT'S IN THE JEANS

My fixation with jeans go back a long way, when a pair of Ronald Sassoon's  were the "it" jeans. The 80's dictated tight fitting jeans tapered down to the ankle, and needed a fair amount of energy to be applied to get in and out of them. I suppose the skinny trend merely represents a revival of the "hold your breath" era in a slightly different shape. However, pear shapes must steer clear of skinnies as it makes you look like a butternut pumpkin. I opt for the skinny bootleg, which fits tight around the thighs but is cut straight down to the bottom instead of those cut on  a curve around the hips.  I might still have to hold my breath getting into them but perhaps that's due to my recent submission to Lindt chocolate.

Come on girls, show us how to squeeze into them jeans, without suffocating or sustaining a hernia...

REMIX

The added advantage of clothing that does not represent fast fashion is that it can take you into the next season without looking dated. I knew that I would get optimum use out of this sale find at Reserved Clothing in Prague when I first laid eyes on this Chartreuse jacket, a colour that seems to return to the fashion scene regularly. I've styled this jacket in another post before, but remixed it today with snake print. The introduction of a third print on the shoes picks up on the snake print, working in harmony with each other. My best advice to anybody asking me about mixing print, is to ignore grandmother's advice and simply join different things in print that you would normally perceive as a mismatch. However, there are limits, like paisley and animal print which works about as good as Tom and Jerry in the same pen. Some prints worn together just don't get on.  Spots and stripes, plaid and polka dots, and animal print with stripes seem to fall into the category of workable mismatches. You can ad virtually any single colour to print, as it picks up on a pop of collar like an ice bear to snow. The best way to mix and mismatch is to display different prints on a flat surface and to then decide which is more in harmony with each other. The trained eye seldom misleads. Take your eyesight out exploring, and consider as many options as you can on Google images or street style blogs, and then decide what works and what doesn't. Nothing scientific about mismatching outfits, and no intellectual reasoning required.

HAIR ENVY

Making a guest appearance on Fiftyfabulous today, is a 60+ women with hair that would stop any hairstylist dead in his tracks to admire this abundant head of healthy hair. Dalene is living proof of the fact that it's a old women's tale that you have to cut you hair when you reach a certain age. She uses salon professional products and has her hair coloured by a colour technologist, Bart van Biljon at Tizelle Hair salon, in Gansbaai. Bart used very subtle techniques to enhance her natural blonde shade, giving her hair a three dimensional depth and volume. Dalene knows how to sport the mixed print trend and combines different animal prints with lace. As can be seen from her outfit, style has no age restriction....

RES IPSA LOQUITUR IN CHARTREUSE

Let's join forces and dispel the myth that print makes you look big, and even if it does, to bad.  Wearing it head to toe does however seem to diminish the effect, elongating the body slightly - not that I need to look any taller at 1,78 metre!  Step out in 7 inch heels and you can reach for the tree tops (pun intended)!  My tree print suit was seen before in a post during Milan Fashion Week 2013, I then stashed it away in the back of my closet until I decided to remix it with some colour. This time I restyled it with heels and a bright Chartreuse, breaking up the monotony of print. Any print seems to work with a spot of colour creating contrast. Take on a wardrobe challenge, and sport any print with a brightly coloured accessory!

If I may flaunt a little Latin from my student days, I would say res ipsa loquitur, freely translated it means, the thing speaks for itself. Well, in this case, the print needs no further explanation...
