WHAT TO WEAR TO FASHION WEEK

If you're in a style rut, Fashion Week is the ideal opportunity to escape from your comfort zone and dress with a little more expression, or perhaps just a little more creativity. Over the top is always allowed, but demure, out of place.  Although some get carried away and think of it as a freak show, obviously attracting a great deal of attention from the street style photographers, the very essence of the event allows to be more bold and creative and to challenge convention by wearing something that is different from the ordinary. One should however always remain true to yourself and be comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. I merely added more accessories to give the look a more polished appearance, sprucing up my beautiful Thabo Makheta Cape, a South African designer that made her mark by giving Bashotho blankets worn by local folk in Lesotho, quite an edge! Amazing how something traditional could become such a hit! The stoic me whispered in my ear and suggested that I go sans the hat when the sun set, and that's when I slipped into something more exotic for the evening's show at Kluck CGDT, of which you will be seeing more later next week!

MBFWCT, HABITS COLLECTION S/S 2015

Jenny le Roux is a designer that took to a fashion career at a late stage in her life. When asked about what inspires her collection, she veers away from it, stating that she is not  to keen on discussing what inspires her. Quite frankly, what does it matter when her creations speak for itself? Clearly, whatever the source is, inspiration is something that she receives in generous portions. Her collection at the Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion week that took place at the captivating Watershed two weeks ago, left us breathless and took us to the Far East with the distinct flavour of Japanese opulence. The flowing  sleeves of the silk frocks gently drapes down to the floor, and for a moment I wanted to experience a day in the life of a Geisha girl. Now feast your eyes, and imagine the scent of jasmine tea being served to you from a fine porcelain cup while you page down..... she once again proved that style has no age restriction. Take me to Tokyo......

STYLE SNIPPETS AT MBFWCT 2015

The most fun you can have with your clothes on, is stepping out at Cape Town Fashion Week, where the sidewalk provides just as much eye candy as the runway. This is CapeTown's epicentre for style, where the fashion cognoscenti shows us how fashion is interpreted to make it their own. African and tribal prints were big this year, with a variety of turbans seen worn with vibrant colours giving outfits a distinct edge and flamboyancy. Let the outfits do the talking...

MBFWCT, MY STYLE

The Fiftyfabulous Fashback Foursome ascended on the Watershed at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town last weekend, clad in Greys and Taupes, sporting trendy bits like ruffled blouses, fur collars, culottes, animal print, trench coats, gloves and boucle weaves. Fashion Weeks always provide a platform for dressing creatively, hence my decision to ad a few Russian elements mixed with current trends. The culotte suits most body types, and the ruffled blouse was snatched up at the Thai design's Theatre Clothing sale in February, adding instant glamour to the culottes. I added gloves to give the look a more polished feel and sported a snake print clutch to ad some drama. What fun is to be had dressing for the occasion. My fashionable friends gladly played the part. With a quick stop at the Mac Cosmetics counter, and the GHD bar in the public convening space set up by MBFWCT, I could freshen up my lippie and ad a few curls.
