CULOTTE, HOT OR NOT?

The culotte has come and gone, and the current version has seen a number of new styles, above the knee, below the knee or right down to the bottom, straight down or wide legs, allowing all body types to wear it, be it short or tall. The culotte was rather hot in the 80's when we sported it with platform heels and bell sleeved tops. The pleats make this pair quite bulky and flamboyant, and if you dress it up with a rather loud jacket the way I did, it's just the right look for a morning wedding or fancy occasion. I prefer dressing it down for the office by adding a simple crisp White shirt with minimal accessories to give an edge. How do you sport the trend? I think I'll keep this for a while, in spite of it's almost apparent demise, a trend that becomes a "go to" item in my closet.... add some killer heels and you're off to clinch the deal.

TABOOS AND TRENDS

Yesterdays taboos are tomorrows trends. I was raised with the idea that White shoes are a taboo, and that the shoes should never be lighter than the seam. Sounds a little archaic to you? Well, it fact it is. There are a number of fashion dos and don'ts that we grew up with that now appear to be primitive and outdated. Here I am again, challenging convention, or perhaps simply ignoring outdated rules. My soles are much paler than the pants, I am wearing different prints together, and I feel ecstatic about the liberation. One more advantage of being a girl of a certain age....

BACK TO BASICS

Old habits die hard, hence our tendency to revert back to old patterns. We do so because it makes us feel comfortable or at ease with ourselves, and for some because they inherently fear change. Perhaps we gravitate towards these patterns because we simply love it. I don't spend much time deliberating my method or motivation for a particular choice when it comes to styling as it is intended to be a no brainer and a creative escape from the rigidity of my profession. My repetitive behaviour stems from a deep seated love for Black & White, in spite of some not considering it as a colour. It's a reliable choice, and an easy way of styling a look without having to spend to much time evaluating the ensemble, a luxury that I don't always have time for. Grab and style, that's my "go to" look.
